September 2022 Fishing Report

South Holston Fishing Reports from August: The fishing was great this past month and the river produced consistent High-Water flows. Nymph fishing has been great with in line rigs or heavier bounce rigs. August produced a “heavier is better” style fishing to consistently be on the bottom. A little frustration was encountered with the length of feeding by the trout. However, the bite was consistent when feeding occurred.

Recommended flies: Jiggy Sulphur Nymph, RS2 in grey, purple, and olive, rainbow scuds, Purple Frenchie and Patty Cake Midge

Dry fly Fishing produced healthy hatches in the late evenings and fish were rising closer to the river banks.

Recommended Flies: Puff daddys, Sparkle Duns, Puff daddy Cripples and a size 22 green midge.

About Taylor Klarman

I am a retired United States Marine. I finished my last tour in 2013, shortly after I was retired. The long road of completing a Master’s degree in business and working various jobs was just not enough to fill the vessel of life. Fishing has always been a pillar of my life as I am a native of Mobile Bay, Alabama. I grew up competing in the thriving fisheries from Florida across to Venice, LA as the crow flew. Fortunately, The Marine Corps took me to many places in this life and freshwater fly-fishing became my addictive pastime while in the service.
